50 pupils from schools in North Lanarkshire participated in last night’s S1 and S2 Badminton competition at Our Lady’s High School.

The designs, which are unique for each team, will need to pass tests to make sure they can withstand impacts from hefty items without issue.

The team that can find the way to make the strongest, lightest Halo will be at an advantage since every gram counts in F1.

Brian Kerr had briefly cancelled out Hartson's first with a fierce drive, but the second half was Motherwell's.

They went 4-3 up through headers from Jim Hamilton, Scott Mc Donald and then Willie Kinniburgh but sub Beattie prodded in the equaliser.

But Motherwell scored a sensational equaliser when Alan Mc Cormack, Paul Quinn and Kerr combined superbly to send the latter into the box and he drove a terrific left-foot shot past the despairing dive of David Marshall.

But Hartson restored Celtic's lead with just over half-an-hour gone, craning his neck to turn Aiden Mc Geady's cross into the corner of the net, though the 41-year-old Gordon Marshall looked slow going down in an attempt to keep the ball out.

I am sure they are eagerly awaiting the next competition.
